What Is SSSTS?

SSSTS is a recognised qualification designed for people who have supervisory responsibilities on a construction site.

What Does It Stand For?

SSSTS stands for the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme. If you currently have supervisor responsibilities on a construction site, this course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to carry out the role effectively and safely.

The qualification is designed and accredited by one of the leading construction training bodies, CITB. This highly respected training course is recognised nationwide by employers in construction and related industries.

What Does It Entail?

The SSSTS is a 2 day course covering the health & safety and environmental issues that a supervisor in construction should understand as part of their role.

This includes what is expected of a construction site supervisor, why their duties are important and how their role contributes to the overall safety of the workplace.

At the end of the course, understanding is assessed with the following:

  • A 30 minute written exam including 25 questions (22 multiple choice and 3 short written answers).
  • A trainer-reviewed case study exercise.

The pass mark for the exam is 80%, however you will have the option to resit if you achieved over 70%.

All of the information required to pass the assessment will be provided throughout the duration of the course. Full attendance is therefore essential in order to obtain the appropriate knowledge and pass the course successfully.

At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of completion. Your qualification will also be visible using the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card checker.

Does It Expire?

Your SSSTS certificate will be valid for 5 years from the date of completion. In order to keep the accreditation you will need to complete a Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme Refresher (SSSTS-R) before the 5 years are up. The SSSTS-R is a condensed 1 day course designed to update site supervisors who have already completed the SSSTS within the last 5 years.

If the 1 day refresher course is not completed before your SSSTS certificate expires, you will need to complete the full 2 day course again. You can keep track of your qualification status using the CSCS card checker to ensure you don’t miss your expiry deadline.

Please Note: SSSTS courses are not designed for those who are yet to obtain their first supervisory role. They are made to prove and improve the abilities of those already with supervisory responsibilities.
